There are many people that take concern when it comes to getting acne treatment and being African American. Trying to find places that specifically provide service with the expert of acne treatment for African Americans I have not been able to find, unfortunately.
However, there is important information regarding this concern. Overall, acne treatment between an African American and another ethnicity is rarely a concern. There are small differences that can occur or make the treatment harder to assess.
The fact of the matter is that everyone reacts to acne treatments differently, regardless of being African American or not. For instance, Proactiv may be effective for one person and Clean & Clear didn’t; where as Clean & Clear worked and Proactiv did not. Everyone’s skin is different, it is a matter of experimenting between products and finding the right one.
The number one concern with African American acne treatment is skin discoloration and pigmentation change, because the effects can be more drastic than those of other ethnicities. It is recommended to make sure your dermatoligist that is going to prescribe you with an acne treatment has experience in the field of working with African American’s.
The best African American acne treatment, along with anyone else trying to cure acne is to maintain a healthy diet, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, drink water, exercise daily, keep clean, and get enough sleep. All of these factors, while some more important than others, will effect the growth of acne.
Unfortunately, some cases of acne aren’t preventable by these methods, therefore an acne treatment is needed. Most importantly, as an African American, if you are trying out different methods and one works okay but you feel that the results could be better, try something else out for a month and see how it turns out.
