If acne scars are causing problems with your self esteem then you have probably already tried a few different ways of removing, hiding or diminishing them. Many people try scar creams in their early attempts to improve the appearance of these scars. If the scars are large, or there are many of them, you may find that the creams have a limited effect and that you are now considering acne removal surgery.

There are different types of acne removal surgery, some more suitable for certain types of skin and types of scars. Here is a summary of some of the most well-known types of treatment;
Fractional laser therapy (acne laser surgery for the rest of us) includes the emission of a ray aimed at the damaged parts of the skin, meaning that the healthy tissue should be relatively untouched by this treatment. This is considered one of the most effective forms of acne removal surgery.
Punch excision is a type of acne removal surgery which involves the removal of the damaged area of the skin, the subsequent hole then being closed by stitching. This type of surgery is more commonly used for deep scars, and would not be suitable to lighter, shallower acne scars.
If the scars are not too deep then dermabrasion is a less intrusive type of acne removal surgery and is considered as being very effective. In this type of treatment the skin is “sanded”, removing the surface layers and, hopefully, revealing the undamaged layers lying below these.
The type of acne removal surgery you choose depends entirely upon you. However, a good suggestion is to try a non-abrasive treatment first, leaving the more drastic methods as a fall-back in the event that the first attempts are unsuccessful.
