Great Reasons to Buy a Mini Exercise Bike

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Inside a typical gym, there are many equipment that may be used for toning your body. They can usually be used to full effect by people who already exercise regularly at home or during weekends. However, if you hardly get any exercise at all, whether by choice or otherwise, you may find that those gym equipment are too difficult to use, during the first few days, at least. In this situation, it may be appropriate to choose a less strenuous piece of equipment.

In comes the mini exercise bike. For those who are not familiar with it, it is simply a base where pedals are connected, so as to allow the user to pedal away while seated on a separate chair. That means it is very portable, because its size allows it to be slid under a chair, or to be placed inside a big shoebox. So if you live in a small apartment for instance, and still want to have a workout, then this can be your best friend.

And if you have not been exercising regularly for a long time, then you will benefit greatly from using a mini exercise bike. That is because it offers less resistance than a full-sized exercise bike, although there are usually settings for conferring some degree of resistance. The lesser resistance translates to an easier, lighter workout, which is just what you need when you are just starting out in your fitness program. In addition, people who have become stroke patients, or who have simply become weaker through old age, can find a lot of benefit with the lesser resistance.

Then of course, there is also the lesser cost. Because the mini exercise bike uses less materials than a full-sized one, then it also costs much less than the full version. However, this doesnt have to mean an inferior quality. There are many models to choose from that are both durable and reliable.

So whether you are starting out, recovering from an injury, or simply trying to get a good, cheaper machine, then the mini exercise bike may be for you. Look for them in a good fitness store, those places where you can find treadmills for sale, and start pedaling your way to better health.

Is It Time To Replace Your Running Shoes?

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

Running shoes are very common today. Almost everybody has at least one pair, and one reason is their versatility. You can wear your shoes to the gym, to your workout, or to school, work, or just hanging out. These shoes are truly multipurpose, but when they start to wear out you’ll find that they aren’t as comfortable. You can also expose yourself to various injuries from shoes that are falling apart. Sadly, most people don’t even know when it’s time to get a new pair of shoes.

You’ll know when it’s time to get new shoes if you take some time to inspect them once in a while. The first place to look is inside the shoe. Most shoes like New Balance have a cushioned insole which sits between your foot and the hard rubber sole to cushion your foot. If this part is worn through, has a hole in it, or has become scrunched up beyond fixing, it may be time to look for a new shoe. You can replace the insole with a store bought one, but the fact that the insole has worn out indicates that it might be better to get a new shoe.

After that, turn over the shoe and have a look at the sole. The sole is the most important part of the shoe. It protects and cushions your foot, and the treads on the bottom help you grip the surface you’re walking or running on. If the sole has holes in it you definitely need to replace your shoes since they aren’t safe any more. If the soles are starting to crack, or if you have toning shoes like the Reeinspire and the soles have a flat spot on them, it’s time for a new pair of shoes.

How to Improve Your Posture?

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Improve your posture with exercise. Yes, posture can be corrected if you make these single yet effective exercises several times a day. Many of us have posture problems sometime in their lives. If not corrected, they can bring problems in the back, shoulders and hips. The first thing to do is to accept the reality that you had a bad posture.
. Most of us don’t know it initially, I am telling you this so bring awareness which will help remember the exercises later. Try to you look at yourself at the mirror standing naturally and if you look slouchy and sleazy the whole day you may have some problems with your posture. You may not notice it at first glance but try an honest, careful look and focus on your neck, shoulders, lumbar spine and thighs. According to experts, they must be in alignment most of the time.
First easy exercise involves the neck. Called chin glide, bring your teeth slowly and gently move your head backwards in a straight line without tilting. Move up to 1 inch until you feel some tension, keep shoulders relaxed and hold for 5 seconds. Repeat two more times.
Next is easy exercise on shoulders. Extend your arms, bent 45 degrees at elbows and palms out. Without changing the position of the arms, squeeze together your shoulder blades until you feel tension at the chest and hold for 5 seconds. If you had pain, try lowering your arms and gradually raise them after continous exercise.
Last is easy poor posture exercise on the hips. This corrects the position of the pelvis. Standing a good posture, place tumbs on lower ribs and fingers on hip bones, give prominence to your butt and tuck it under and line at lower ribs. Hold for 5 seconds and repeat at least three times.

Ab Chair Workout Information

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Ab chairs are becoming an increasingly popular addition for home gym equipment. Many people are unsure what an Ab chair is or if it works effectively. As the name suggest, it is a chair designed to help exercise your abdominals. They help you to work out in proper form and allow you to exercise in positions that would usually be impossible.

Are Ab Chair Workouts Effective?

The effectiveness level will mainly depend on the brand of chair you purchase. Ab loungers and other similar models are only effective for the lower and upper abdominals. They do not allow your core to twist, so the oblique section is not worked at all. An ab chair workout can be effective for toning your stomach, but a lot depends on which chair you choose. Remember than simple crunches will not get you a six pack, you will also need to burn off the fat covering your muscles.

Abdominal Chair Varieties

There are hundreds of different abdominal chairs on the market. Some are more efficient than others, although they may be more expensive as a result. Listed below are two of the best choices:

Elite – The Elite chair uses a full motion arrange for your abs. It includes an airy mesh so make your workout a cool and comfortable experience. It also has a small electronic monitor to keep track of reps, calories burnt, and time spent exercising.

Pro – The pro chair focuses on the stomach along with other upper body exercises. Two resistance bands are included to help you exercise your stomach and the rest of your upper body during the same workout. This chair is more expensive than other models, but it includes a fitness computer to keep track of reps and time. An instruction DVD is also provided for those who do not know how to use the chair.

P90X vs Insanity – Closer Look at Weight Loss Programs

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

When it comes to deciding which weight loss program to take up, it is always wise to make comparisons between the best options. Two of the most talked about workout plans today is the P90x and Insanity, both of which have their own pros and cons. If you are contemplating on trying one of these fitness plans, it is only wise to compare and contrast their potential benefits as well as requirements.

Which workout is more grueling?

This aspect is a little bit of a wash because both workouts require you to workout six times a week for about two to three months. People who have gone through these fitness programs can attest to the fact that only the toughest and most disciplined will get through in one piece. In any case, if you really are looking to get results, grueling routines make for a perfect choice.

Which workout requires more time per session?

The P90x requires you to exercise for at least 45 minutes to a maximum of 75 each day. On the other hand, Insanity only requires 40 minutes each session. While it can be argued that more time translates to more effective results, you should also consider the type of exercises performed in a shorter span. With P90x, you need to have a stronger stamina to finish the daily exercises.

Which is costlier?

While both programs are sold at exactly the same price ($119.85), going with P90x means having to purchase pull up bars and dumbbells for lifting weights.

So which to choose between P90X vs Insanity? Many people are trying to figure out how to lose weight and any of these two programs can definitely produce results. It is a very close call so your choice might come down to which one would fit your schedule and fitness needs better. Whichever one you choose, the need for commitment is the same.

Inversion Table Or Inversion Chair Which Is Better? Which Is Best?

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

When you are looking for the right inversion apparatus that you can use for inversion therapy, there are many options available for you. Inversion tables, inversion chairs, and inversion gravity boots are all inversion systems you can put in your list and all you need to do is to determine the advantages and disadvantages of each before deciding which way to go.
While inversion gravity boots are for specific users alone well, I mean, not everybody can totally hang upside down without other means of support but only the boots or ankles support attached to the inversion rack, we will have to consider the two inversion system which could be used by many – inversion tables and inversion chairs.
Inversion Chair vs. Inversion Table
These two systems are both used in inversion therapy. They both allow people to invert in multiple levels allowing all users to enjoy the benefits of inversion therapy. However, there is a little difference on how these two works and knowing the same might be beneficial to you or to anyone reading this hub.
While an inversion table allows you to 100% full inversion, inversion chairs will only allow you 70% inversion. This is an advantage to those who are not really comfortable being in fully inverted position in using inversion tables. Inverted sitting position also puts less stress on your hips, ankles and knees than if you will have to hurt your ankles with inversion tables. Also, there are some users which are not allowed by their doctors to do full inversion because of some medical conditions, inversion chairs will allow them to still get into an inversion therapy program.
These are just few instances which can help you choose which route to go. If you think you are more comfortable with inversion tables, then go buy one. If you think you are more into inversion chairs, go for it. Just don’t forget that before jumping to your final decision, you have consulted your doctor first and you know how these things work.

Kung Fu Practice as Compared to Karate

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

I am interested in learning martial arts. I know that there are several branches or systems in this sport. Two of the styles that have piqued my interest are karate and kung fu. I am aware that for some people these two have the same moves and principles. However, kung fu practice is different from that of karate. They do have a lot of differences and I’ve learned them by reading numerous articles about the two.

Karate originated in Okinawa, Japan. Kung fu on the other hand started in China. One way to tell the difference between a person doing karate and a person practicing kung fu is by looking at their suits. Karatekas wear a white top that they call ‘gi’. This top is wrapped around their body with a colored belt that indicates the level of the person in karate. Karatekas are usually barefooted when they do their moves and techniques.

On the contrary, kung fu practitioners wear tops that are adorned with frog-style buttons. Their tops are not always white in color, they can wear different-colored tops. They also wear kung fu shoes when they perform their kung fu training and their gear is usually made of light fabrics. The movements of the two systems are also very different. Karate training focuses on strikes, kicks and punches. They consider power very important during training.

Kung fu training emphasizes soft fighting movements. They prioritize speed in their circular fighting techniques. Kung fu practitioners usually look like their doing a graceful dance. I am personally shocked at the intensity of the damage a soft kung fu movement can do. The practitioner is always in harmony with the movements that he or she makes. These are just some of the variations between kung fu and karate. I’m sure that there is a lot more to discover once I start a class on either of the two.

Video Games While Exercising? Proform Elliptical Cross Trainer May Be Just What You Want

Friday, September 10th, 2010

If you’re a person who loves video games and also won’t want to miss performing workouts, then the proform elliptical cross trainer may be something you would want to have. Now you will be motivated to do your workouts and perhaps exercising may be less tiring for you.
This new model includes two video games which allow you to play while working out. These games are designed to motivate you to exercise, because as you workout, you will also gain advantage in the game. It also includes 3 “personal trainer” directed workouts that will help throughout your exercise. It has nine separate workouts you can choose from depending on which area you want to concentrate on. It has an easy-to-use LCD display and cooling fans. It also has a heart rate monitor.
The drawback of this exercise machine though is that the cost may not be worth its price which is $799. You can find other machines which are more effective for workouts. This defeats its purpose of being a workout machine. To make it affordable, some features which are important for an exercise machine were not enhanced. This machine is also less comfortable compared to other models. Its brake system is also not as good as the ECB system. Though the video games are nice but when you talk about exercise machines, some of its features are somehow inadequate.
Proform elliptical offers other models you can choose from depending on your needs. This model may not be ideal for all but this is suitable for those who love video games. This may motivate them to exercise more instead of just playing with their video games as this exercise machine allows you to exercise and have fun with video games at the same time. This is better compared to not doing any exercise at all.

Step Up Into Fitness

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

In 1989, Gin Miller introduced a new form of exercise called Step Aerobics. The fitness step used in this process, which are elevated steps typically made out of plastic. It tends to be three feet in length and 1.5 feet in width. The basic method is to place one foot on the step in front of you, followed by your other foot. The first foot is then brought back to the ground, followed by the second foot. Since it has been invented, variations have been made to include more advanced aerobics.

The step by step fitness step has grown in popularity for several reasons. It provided a quick and easy way to have a more intense workout than just basic aerobics. Further, the step is low in impact. This means that it stresses your joints less than jogging or running would. For those people who are a little clumsy and avoid gyms and staring eyes, the step does not require any good athleticism or even coordination. Not only is it simple to learn and perform on, but it is very economical to purchase the necessary equipment.

A beginner should try at least one Top 5 ranked step DVD. Number 5 is more of a kick-boxing DVD for people who are up for a challenge. Kelly Coffey-Meyer did the Step Boxing Workout to combine kick-boxing with step aerobics. Number 4 is entitled Step Up with Patrick Goudeau, which is one of the few where a male leads the team! Christi Taylor came in at number 3 with the Ultimate Cardio Core Video by toning your core muscles and getting rid of the fat fast. Step Pump with Tonya Larson is number 2, showing a half hour step workout that is easily modified for beginners.

It really doesn’t matter how you get into fitness, but keep in mind the best DVD out there to get you started. The number 1 step aerobics DVD is Step Party by Katina Hunter; a fun dance party that allows you to have fun the whole time!

Goals of Leg Workouts

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Everybody has their own reasons in working out their legs. Nice pair of legs are extremely one of the biggest assets that only few are blessed to have. Improving the look of your legs can make you more attractive and confident.

In working out your legs you need to identify first what is your reason and what outcome do you expect. There are different variations of leg workout that target specific goals. If you want to engage in a leg workout, you must know your goal so that you can get the right workout that will give you the satisfying result. Here are the different goals of leg workout.

Increase Leg Size

If your aim is to increase leg size and you want to know how to get bigger legs, push your muscles to work hard until its limits. Work them very hard and then let them rest and grow. Engage in leg workouts that focus in lifting heavy enough weights to make your muscles grow. It is most appropriate to dedicate 1 to 2 days to your leg training, that is, if you have good recovery ability. The objective in this workout is to lift heavy weights and successfully finish 8 to 12 repetitions per set, while doing 2 to 4 sets per exercise.

Allow your muscles to rest between 45 and 60 seconds to give the muscles enough time to recover and lift heavy again. Do not allow the muscles to rest too long because this will lessen the amount of anabolic hormones released. Incorporate variety of exercises into your training to keep your legs responding and your muscles guessing what comes next.

Increase Leg Power

If your aim is to increase the amount of power and not to add more muscles, choose a workout that employs lifting heavier weights than training for mass but should be performed on 4 to 8 repetitions only per set. Rest period should also be longer to allow the muscles to fully recover and giving more time to deplete the chances of adding muscular bulk.

Lean Legs

If you are one of those women who wish to have thinner and leaner legs, while showing some muscle development, perform a greater number of repetitions with a lighter weight. Perform each exercise and immediately move to another exercise to allow your body to continually moving and take the shortest rest breaks possible. This will provide your body an aerobic workout which can burn more calories during the training, thus helping to keep your body and legs lean.

Whatever your goal or purpose in doing leg workout, choose the proper training program to help you accomplish your goal.
